Nude Rhinemaidens make Wagner a sell-out
Britain's Royal Opera House, that bastion of high culture, risks being accused of resorting to nudity to boost ticket sales. Its new production of Wagner's Das Rheingold, which opens today, has been described as "radical" in presenting the Rhinemaidens in the famous opening scene wearing nothing but blue pubic wigs. A spokesman said the nudity had been "meticulously thought out and included for a specific reason."
